Star Trek Online open beta announced

Developer Cryptic has announced that it will host an open beta phase for upcoming Star Trek MMORPG, Star Trek Online prior to the game’s official launch in February.

The open beta will run from January 12th through to January 26th and keys will be available on a “first come first serve” basis through the game’s official website.

The upcoming MMORPG, which will be released on the 2nd of February 2010 is currently in its closed beta testing phase and has been billed by its developers as “the first MMO to offer both space and ground game play.”

In the game each player will be a captain of his or her own ship, with the mention of ‘Federation Captain’ and ‘Klingon Warrior’ as class possibilities.

It has also been suggested that players will be able to beam down onto the face of different planets for more hand -to -hand orientated confrontations.
