US gamer Erik Estavillo is attempting to sue publisher Blizzard for maintaining “a harmful environment” in its massively popular MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW).
Estavillo accuses Blizzard of employing “sneaky and deceitful practices” in the game, specifying the character travel dynamic. WoW contains a massive landscape, and despite high speed travel routes and the ability to teleport, Estavillo claims that the slow pace which characters walk at “forces” them to buy the expansion packs in order to speed things up.
To spice up his argument with some off-topic whining, Estavillo has thrown in a number of ailments that plague his real-world avatar, including OCD, agoraphobia, depression and Crohn’s Disease. Of course the man takes no responsibility for his condition, essentially arguing that he is a mindless pawn, unable to resist the mega-publisher’s evil will.
Estavillo’s final masterstroke, proving beyond a measure of a doubt that he has lost touch with reality, was to subpoena Winona Ryder and Martin Lee Gore of Depeche Mode in the case against Blizzard.
