Last week we reported that leading local CoD4 team Brazen would be hosting the year’s first Call of Duty 4 competition. The One Night Cup would – as its name suggests – take place over the space of a single evening.
The match took place last night with a full contingent of 16 teams who convened online at 5PM for the opening rounds.
The following teams took place in the first round:
Brazen, DevilS, A*P, Fun-Run, miNt, Sergeant, Synergy, Cake or Death, Pantheon, YGO DangerDogs, glitter, Dyn, BFB mixP, Death Junkies, Prodigy and Prodigy 2nd.
Top seeded teams Pantheon, Brazen, miNt and BFB mixP made their way through the early games to meet up in the semi-finals.
Brazen beat miNt comfortably with a final score of 13-3. Pantheon defeated BFB with the final score being 13-5.
This meant that Pantheon would once again be going up against Brazen in yet another final. Pantheon was missing two of its regular players while Brazen was playing with one substitute reports Telkom DoGaming.
Despite Brazen being considered favourites to win, Pantheon took an early and commanding 5-2 lead. Brazen came back hard however winning 5 successive rounds to take the match to 7-5 at half time. Brazen continued to dominate and won 6 of the following 7 rounds, finishing with a score of 13-6.
Brazen, who hosted the event, offered a R500 cash prize to the winning team. MyGaming reported last week that there was a good chance they would get to keep the cash.
Brazen retains the number one CoD4 spot in SA, and it remains to be seen if any teams can dethrone them in 2010.
