Reports have surfaced that ill fated 2007 RPG Hellgate London will be revamped and released this year under a new publisher.
According to IGN the rights to the game have been purchased by HanbitSoft from Namco Bandai. The company intends to release a refurbished version of the game under the moniker ‘Hellgate Resurrection’ in China, Taiwan and South East Asia later this year with a North American, European and Japanese release to follow soon after.
Although Hellgate London, which was the first and only title developed by Flagship Studios, was somewhat of a failure owing to negative reviews and a subscription fee being imposed on multiplayer games, HanbitSoft retained the rights to publish the title in Asia and has consistently updated it with additional content.
“We would like to thank Namco Bandai Games America for allowing us to acquire the Hellgate publishing rights and are thrilled to have eager gamers worldwide return and enjoy the franchise. Hellgate: Resurrection is heading towards success in Korea such that we decided to push ahead with launching the game overseas next year. We will do our best to get the game to the fans as soon as possible.” said HanbitSoft CEO Kee-Young Kim.
