Titan Quest devs announce new “Diablo Clone” RPG

22 January 2010

Crate Entertainment –a developer consisting of ex Iron Lore employees – has announced a new RPG called Grim Dawn.

The developers are calling GrimDawn the “spirital successor to Titan Quest and proud Diablo-clone.” Titan Quest very well received when it was released in 2006. Despite gameplay that was closely based on Blizzard’s iconic Diablo franchise, the game was praised for its addictive nature.

The game boasts 200 character levels, the ability to craft blueprints and a “refined loot system” that will drop “less junk.”

One of the more interesting aspects of the project is the manner in which it is being funded. Crate is pre-selling the game, and hopes to privately fund the entire project. Players can purchase the normal edition for $20, or the “Legendary Fan Edition” for $48. The Legendary Fan edition will include alpha and beta access, an in game item and a place in the credits.

The game is planned for a digital release in early 2011.

Crate is now taking preorders.
