LANGames.co.za gets overhaul

25 January 2010

On 25 January 2010, at 00:00, LANGames launched its new and improved website. The new website has been built with the professional, gamer and consumer in mind. With added features and more functionality the website aims to be a “world class first in South Africa.”

One of the Highlights of the new website is the addition of fully functional tournament management software, imbedded straight within the code of the LANGames portal.

“The website has been improved to make it easier for LAN organizers to administer events, and for gamers to find events. A complete solution from start, to finish.” says Mandus Momberg, director of LANGames SA.

New additions to the site also include an Electronic-Store, a video section, and the addition of Paintball from the list of events that can be created. “We have been building ties with distributers around the country for months in order to find the best prices for our products that we want to sell, these will be products that every gamer must have. We also added paintball to the website because we realize that a lot of gamers also play paintball, and therefore it made sense.” says Momberg.

LANGames is also working together with Mind Sports South Africa, who is the chartered body that represents Electronic Sports on a governmental level. “I am pushing to make the LANGames ranking system the official ranking system in South Africa, it just makes sense having an independent body ranking the players and teams in South Africa.” According to Momberg, ranking is a vital part of the plan going forward. “We won’t be able to grow Electronic Sports in SA without a proper ranking system in place.” With a proper ranking system, more sponsors will be able to join the eSports scene, and with that influx of money, eSports can be grown to its rightful place alongside the other popular sports in the country.

LANGames TV which was launched at rAge in 2009 will also feature much more in the new website. A full dedicated section has been created to host the LANGamesTV shows and to make it easier for gamers to connect and view their favorite shows. “We brokered some deals with international teams and eSports channels that will be providing us with coverage of their events, as well as our own South African content. We will be streaming them locally so expect no delays”

Bandwidth for watching games, and playing games might also not be a problem much longer. “I can’t say much regarding LANGames’ plans for cheap bandwidth to gamers, but all I will say is, keep watching this space”

A complete list of new features include the following:

LANGames TV Section
Updated News & Review section
Fully integrated Tournament administration software
New style and layout
Ability to create more than one tournament within an event
Event specific banner advertising for event organizers.
