Bad Company 2 iGame Beta servers launch tomorrow

27 January 2010

When Activision announced that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) would not include support for dedicated servers last year, many competitive PC gamers in SA, and around the world, cast their eyes to the horizon for something else that could potentially replace Call of Duty 4 which has become the stalwart of competitive FPS gaming over the past few years.

While MW2’s user hosting system works well enough for casual gaming, its erratic latencies, instability and lack of customizability makes the game unsuitable for competitive gameplay. So PC gamers began talking about Bad Company 2, with the expectation that it would become the next big competitive FPS.

EA announced a while back that they would be running dedicated beta servers prior to the launch of the game, and we  are pleased to announced that local gaming service provider iGame will be running  dedicated servers from tomorrow onwards.

iGame will also be hosting the entire 1.5GB beta client via its Zombie FTP server, meaning anyone with ADSL can use local bandwidth to download the files required to partake in the beta. The FTP server address is http://196.2.97.210/.

Players will also need a beta key to gain access to the servers. These can be acquired by preordering the game through a variety of local retailers, including Zaps and BTGames.

Once you have your beta key, and you have downloaded and installed the Client, you will be able to play on the iGame beta servers which go live tomorrow alongside the launch of the global beta. iGame cannot at this time confirm the IP addresses for the servers it will be operating, nor can it say exactly how many servers it will be running, but it will definitely be more than one.

MyGaming will publish the IP addresses for the iGame beta servers tomorrow sometime before they go live. EA is expected to announce what time the beta will be going live sometime in the next 24 hours via the official Battlefield Blog.

The beta is expected to run into February and the game will be released locally on March 5.
