A brand new Steam

24 February 2010

Developers Valve have announced that the public beta for it’s all new user interface for the Steam digital distribution platform is now available to all users via the opt-in setting within Steam.

“We made hundreds of changes to the Steam client as a result of customer feedback on the interface, performance, and functionality. For example, we swapped out the Internet Explorer rendering engine with WebKit, which gives us a bunch of size, stability and performance benefits. This release of Steam leaves us well prepared for another year of strong growth” commented John Cook, director of Steam development.

According to Valve “this Steam update provides several major upgrades to the platform’s core functionality. We’ve overhauled the Steam user interface to enhance the way you already buy and play games, adding more info about the things that matter — getting games, playing them with friends, and staying current in the gaming world.
