If there was ever a sign of guilt, the zombie-survival clone of DayZ, The War Z has changed its name to Infestation: Survivor Stories.
“This change has come about primarily as a result of some confusion and trademark issues with a similarly titled property,” said a message on the game’s official forums.
“While we were reluctant to rename the game so long after launch, especially with nearly 1 million registered players, it was ultimately decided to be in the best interest of our existing community as well as future players in order to eliminate confusion.”
War Z was originally labelled as a “copy” after its name, gameplay style and features were uncannily similar to that of the super-popular ARMA 2 mod, DayZ.
The further aggravate gamers, The War Z suffered through an atrocious launch and an onslaught of negative criticism for the poor quality and bug-ridden gameplay. Developer Hammerpoint Interactive was initially combative in the face of criticism, but was eventually forced to hand out refunds and make apologies.
The War Z devs were probably also pretty embarrassed when it was revealed that they had copy-pasted the League of Legends terms of use agreement, without even changing the text.
