The free-to-play RPG game Path of Exile has exited its beta phase and is now available to play in all its isometric dungeon-exploring glory.
The game has been seven years in the making by Grinding Gear Games, who have previously said that they plan to bolster the game with yearly expansions for the next five to ten years.
“Today went far more smoothly than the first day of Open Beta,” said Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games, about officially launching out of the beta. “Other than some server load issues in the first couple of hours and a bug that affected a few hundred Steam users (fixed soon after the the 1.0.0c patch), everything went fine.”
Path of Exile should appeal to fans of Titan Quest, Diablo and any other isometric action RPG, but what sets Path of Exile apart is that all areas aside from the central encampments are randomly generated for increased re-playability.
While all players are (currently) on one server world, the game play outside of encampments is highly instanced providing every player or party with an isolated map to freely explore.
The game does feature “ethical microtransactions”, which are said to be only cosmetic changes that can be avoided if desired.
