Sega has gone ahead and revealed Shogun 2: Total War, following a tumult of rumours doing the rounds over the past day or so.
The game that started off the massively popular Total War series is finally getting a sequel. Going back to Japan, players will be tasked with the goal of reuniting the land during the golden era of Samurai warfare.
Details are still pretty scarce, although it has been confirmed that players will be able to control up to eight generals simultaneously in multiplayer mode. All online matches will be recorded on a leaderboard, and there will be support for clans.
Apparently the game will have a much smaller scope than the likes of Empire: Total War, but the experience will be more detailed. As opposed to hundreds of different units, Shogun 2 will have no more than 40, and there will be around 8 different feudal warlords. Naval combat will also be included.
Shogun 2: Total War is still in pre-alpha stage, so a released date is a long way off still.
