Having long left last year’s Dota 2 The International 2014 prize pool in the dust, this year’s Dota 2 The International 2015’s prize pool has reached an absurd $15 million (R185 million), or exactly $15, 099, 255 at the time of writing.
That puts The International 2015’s prize pool ahead of events like the 2015 Cricket World Cup, the Golf Masters Tournament and very nearly everything else.
Just as a point of reference, the largest League of Legends and Call of Duty championships, at just over $2 million and $1 million respectively, don’t even come close.
| Tournament | Prize Pool |
| 2014 Formula One | R9.8 billion/$797.5 million |
| 2014 Fifa World Cup | R7.1 billion/$576 million |
| 2015 Wimbeldon | R366 million/$29,6 million |
| 2015 Dota 2 The International | R185 million/$15 million (and still climbing) |
| 2014 Dota 2 The International | R134 million/$10.9 million |
| 2015 Golf Masters Tournament | R123 million/$10 million |
| 2015 Cricket World Cup | R123 million/$10 million |
| 2014 Nedbank Golf Challenge | R80 million/$6.5 million |
| 2014 League of Legends World Championships | R26.3 million/$2.1 million |
| 2015 Call of Duty Championship | R12.3 million/$1 million |
| 2015 Durban July | R3.5 million/$284,000 |
| 2015 ABSA Cape Epic | R1.6 million/$130,000 |
*All figures are rounded off and based on the current Dollar to Rand conversion of R12.33 to $1.
While the winners of The International 2015 will be green with cash, we’ll be green with envy.
