Quantum Break on PC is broken

12 April 2016

Despite the Xbox one version of Quantum Break receiving positive review scores, PC users have cited a number of technical issues surrounding the release of the game on Windows 10.

In a report compiled by Digital Foundry, some of the biggest issues PC users are experiencing include:

  • 60 frames per second isn’t possible on a 60Hz monitor – Framerates appear to be locked at 50Hz making the game judder as the game and monitor fail to sync.
  • 30fps cap doesn’t work – Attempting to fix the above sync issues by locking the game to 30 FPS is met with failure as the game will often dip above and below the mark.
  • Image quality – Quantum Break doesn’t output at native 1080p. Rather it outputs at 720p and then upscales the game to fit your chosen resolution. This leaves the game looking blurry and jagged
  • Data streaming – In order to enjoy the live-action episodes available with the game, players would have to continuously stream the videos in forcing players to wait for buffering and destroying data caps.
  • Crashing – The game is not a stable experience and will continue to crash to desktop causing progress loss.

In addition, losing online access at any time will result in the player character receiving a pirate’s eye-patch, as the game cannot verify the originality of your copy with the servers.

Quantum Break released on 05 April. The game is only available to purchase from the Windows 10 store on PC, or alternatively through the Xbox One games store.
