The end of an era: Ubisoft’s Watchdogs 2 won’t have map-revealing towers

Ubisoft has confirmed Watchdogs 2 won’t feature map unlocks by climbing towers, reports Eurogamer.

The entire map will be available to explore, as soon as players start the game up.

“It’s not a game where you open your map and everything’s there,” Morin says. “There are no towers. You just explore the world.”

“Players start with a few followers in DedSec but pretty soon you realise you’re going to need more if you want to pull off big operations. So you start free-roaming,” Morin continues.

“Every time you get followers, it’s like you’re unlocking the DedSec hivemind.”

Hopefully this is also a sign of future changes to come, as Ubisoft’s infamous “towers” have featured in every game from Assassin’s Creed to Far Cry and The Crew.
