Grand Theft Auto has a longstanding history with the mythical Bigfoot, with the creature said to have appeared in Rockstar’s games as far back as GTA: San Andreas.
GTA V was no different, with the discovery of a golden peyote that transforms you into the legendary creature only adding fuel to the fire.
Some inteprid gamers were able to access GTA V’s PC code and discover there were in fact seven peyote plants to be found, and that Rockstar was leading them on a treasure hunt.
“While messing around with the original golden peyote Bigfoot, fans noticed that pressing a button would activate a sonar that would point them toward the location of the next peyote plant,” reports Kotaku.
“This was crucial in figuring out the order and days that needed to be assigned to each of the coordinates; Tuesday led to Wednesday, and so on.”
However, upon discovering the seventh peyote the trail went cold, and gamers were left wondering if Rockstar had just led them on a wild-goose chase.
That was until Rockstar added to its code in the game’s newest update, spawning a new Bigfoot on the map every time a seventh peyote was eaten.
Since the peyotes eaten along the way turned the player into Bigfoot, fans figured out that they could use Bigfoot’s roaring mechanic to make the monster respond with a roar of its own.
Using that audio cue, players then needed to race to the appropriate location, passing through invisible checkpoints that were littered with the victims that the creature presumably murdered.
Upon finally completing the chase and killing the beast you are rewarded with the BigFoot character’s skin for the game’s director mode.
