While the PlayStation 4 Pro offers a general increase in graphics processing power and consequently both performance and visual improvements, it still has a few problems.
According to Eurogamer, a few PS4 Pro titles are running worse on the new console than the original PlayStation 4.
These titles include Skyrim Special Edition, The Last of Us Remastered, and Mantis Burn Racing.
On these titles, gameplay will be smoother on the base PlayStation 4 hardware than on the new PS4 Pro.
The Last of Us Remastered
The Last of Us Remastered provides the most noticeable performance difference so far, with the base PS4 offering a more stable framerate than the PS4 Pro.
On the PS4 Pro, The Last of Us Remastered allows you to crank up the resolution to either 3,200 x 1,800 at 60fps or native 4K at 30fps with full HDR support.
However, players cannot opt for an enhanced performance mode, and both of these resolution settings offer worse performance than the base settings running on the original PlayStation 4 hardware.
The performance difference between the two versions is frequent enough to be easily noticeable when compared side-by-side.
Skyrim
Skyrim’s performance on the PS4 Pro is also worse than the base PlayStation 4, especially in more complex scenes, where the additional effects of the PS4 Pro’s graphics settings causes the new hardware to stutter noticeably.
Skyrim Special Edition on the PS4 Pro can be played in a down-sampled 1080p resolution or 4K resolution.
This gives the PS4 Pro’s 1080p mode a sharper image than the original hardware, although there is no option to focus on performance and bring it up to the level of the original hardware.
