The new PlayStation Plus service went live on Monday and offers subscribers a catalogue of several hundred new and old games to South Africans come 23 June.
The service, previously known as project Spartacus, is Sony’s answer to the growing popularity of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass.
However, while the two do offer similar services, PlayStation Plus does not have day one releases included in its roster of features while Game Pass does.
Likewise, PlayStation Plus now offers three tiers of subscription to players.
The first tier, PlayStation Plus Essential, provides two downloadable games a month, discounts, and access to online multiplayer – it will replace the old PlayStation Plus features.
The next two tiers are where the key features lie as the Extra tier offers a catalogue of around 400 PS4/5 games, and the final tier – Deluxe/Premium – offers all the benefits of the other plans in addition to access to definitive games from the Classics Catalogue.
South Africa sadly does not have access to cloud streaming for gaming yet and are therefore not offered the cloud gaming feature of Sony’s Premium package.
Therefore, we have the Deluxe package instead – which is slightly cheaper and only excludes cloud gaming compared to Premium.
Below you can find the prices for the three new tiers for PlayStation Plus for 1-month, 3-month and 12-month purchases respectively as well as the features offered for each.
