Western Digital and Sony to release the first PS5 SSD

Western Digital has partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment to produce and release the first official M.2 SSD for the PlayStation 5.

The new WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD will support the storage and running of both PS5 and PS4 games directly on the next-gen PlayStation console.

TThe SSD has been equipped with a heatsink to improve performance, offers drastically reduced loading times, and can reach 7,000 MB/s read speeds.

The SSD is currently available exclusively from Best Buy and directly from Western Digital for $169.99 and will be available from other retailers in August.

South African prices and availability have not yet been announced.
