Gran Turismo 6 releases on 6 December 2013 for the Playstation 3 and will be the biggest overhaul of Gran Turismo to date, featuring a new physics model, tessellated cars and in-game objects, as well as a better weather system and online multiplayer.
Fans who were expecting the game to debut on the PS4 will be disappointed with the lack of any announcements for the next-gen platform.
Speaking during a panel at Gamescom 2013, Polyphony Digital lead developer Kazunori Yaumachi said that GT6 may eventually make its way to the PS4, but would be known as GT7 due to all the changes he expects will be made to the game.
Yaumachi says that while technically possible, he does not know if his “vision” would be possible in such a short time. The development team is working on a successor to GT6, while also making sure that the latest sequel in the long-running series gets enough DLC to keep owners happy.
More concept cars
GT6 will feature concept cars designed exclusively for the game by a number of high-profile manufacturing houses such as Aston Martin, BMW, Honda, and Nissan as well as sports brands such as Nike and Adidas. The concept cars are part of the Vision Gran Turismo project, and a total of eighteen partners will be launching concept cars for the game featuring branding and special abilities unique to that car.
For GT5, Polyphony Digital partnered with Red Bull Racing to create the X2010, the fastest car in the game. The prototype has some real-world grounding but is too insane to actually build and test. The concept car was tested by veteran racing driver Sebastian Vettel during development.
