GTA 5 – how much better will it look on next-gen?

17 June 2014

One of the questions that sprung to mind following the announcement that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be arriving for PC, PS4, and Xbox One before the end of 2014 was: just how much better will the “next-gen” version of the game be?

The team at Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry sought to answer that question by comparing PS3 footage to the PS4 trailer that was recently shown off at E3. In the comparison video, posted below, you can see the marked difference in how the environments look – particularly the lighting, shadow, and water effects – and Trevor waking up in the bushes without his shirt on makes you feel even more dirty than usual.

It also looks like there will be more NPCs in the upgraded version of the game, judging by the clip of Franklin walking his dog.

Exciting times.
