As part of the ongoing legal drama between Sony and the US House of Representatives, the company has suggested that hacker collective Anonymous could be responsible for the Sony Online Entertainment security breach, by way of some rather peculiar evidence.
The proof? “We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named ‘Anonymous’ with the words ‘We are Legion’,” writes Sony communications chief Patrick Seybold, over on the PlayStation Blog.
It does seem a little… obvious, though.
Anonymous has, of course, previously denied any involvement with the matter subsequent to declaring war on Sony, saying later only that, “We realise that targeting the PSN is not a good idea. We have therefore temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers.
“Anonymous is on your side, standing up for your rights. We are not aiming to attack customers of Sony. This attack is aimed solely at Sony, and we will try our best to not affect the gamers, as this would defeat the purpose of our actions. If we did inconvenience users, please know that this was not our goal.”
Looks like the cyberpolice have some backtracing to get on with.
