In a new video interview with Lars Gustavsson, Sony showcases the technical aspects of bringing Battlefield 4 to the PS4 in collaboration with EA and DICE. In an ironic turn of events, the video does not use footage recorded from a Playstation 4.
This is the second time a console version of DICE’s multi-player epic has been showcased using footage from a PC. Previously it was revealed that Microsoft’s trailer for the Xbox One Battlefield 4 Cross-Atlantic Showdown also had PC footage injected.
In the first ten seconds of the video there are clear signs that the button prompt on the top-right to access Battlelog by pressing the Backspace key, as well as the number and function shortcuts in the middle of the UI at the bottom of the screen have been darkened to draw less attention to them, with the Playstation logo blatantly plastered into the top-right corner.
The small furore for the Xbox One’s video was shrugged off eventually by Microsoft director of product planning for Xbox, Albert Penello, who acknowledged that stock PC footage was used instead of Xbox One captures.
This has only happened thus far for both consoles with Battlefield 4. On the Xbox One side, footage from Watch_Dogs running on the PS4 was used in a promotional video for the game that was published on their official Youtube account.
Later, a video covering the Xbox One press event by Escapist Magazine also had Playstation 4 footage from Need For Speed: Rivals slipped into a video covering gameplay on the Xbox One.
Sony has not commented on the use of the stock PC footage in their promotional video.
