The things the PS4 can do but the Xbox One can’t

When originally writing this article, I had a pre-planned list of things to tick off my list as to why gamers should choose Sony’s console over Microsoft’s.

As I prepared to tick off each point from my list however, I realised that many of the major selling points that differentiated the consoles on release have now been fixed.

Microsoft has effectively retained backwards compatibility across its Xbox lineup and added support for HDR Gaming with the release of the Xbox One S.

Having said that, games do tend to run better on Sony’s platform, typically at 1080p 30 FPS vs 900p or lower on the Xbox One, but the Xbox One S has made improvements in this area too.

The PS4 is also the only console at the moment that has a dedicated VR peripheral, as we’re still not 100% sure if Microsoft’s VR gaming solution will ever see the light of day.

Next up is the fact that you can change the PS4’s internal hard drive – meaning you won’t have to deal with nasty externals jutting from the console.

It also arguably has a stronger game line up going forward, if only because you can now also play Xbox exclusives on PC thanks to Microsoft’s Play Anywhere program.

Subjectively speaking, this is true for games also already released on the console with titles like Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne being must-plays.

Finally, the Xbox One can’t stand up by itself – a low-blow for sure, but certainly one to consider if you are short on space next to your TV.

I wish we had a more controversial decision to reach for you , but the honest answer is it looks like the console to own is the the one that has the games you want to play.
