Epic preps for 1 million Gears of War 3 beta players

5 April 2011

Epic’s Rod Fergusson has said that they’re expecting about a million players to hit the incoming Gears of War 3 beta in April. Presumably, they’re also expecting around 10 million complaints about the shotgun damage cone from five different people.

“I don’t know if we necessarily have a target but our expectation is around the one million range – that’s what we’re thinking,” he told CVG. “We’re not trying to set any records, we’re not trying to beat anybody for highest number of players on a beta. We’re just trying to get enough data to help us make a better game.”

The beta is ready, set, BOOM to include three multiplayer modes across four maps.

“We’re going to have dedicated servers around the world and it’s going to be broadly available,” adds Fergusson. “But as I said, for us it’s about getting enough players playing enough matches over enough time that we can actually learn from it and make changes.”

The Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta launches 18 April for Bulletstorm owners, and 25 April for everybody else.
