The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 out late this year

7 June 2011

As expected, CDProjekt has unveiled The Witcher 2 for Xbox 360 at E3. The console port is on course for a 2011 release, and CDProjekt is adamant that they will uphold the excellent standards achieved in the PC version, which has been out for a few weeks.

The developer has confirmed that the console version will not sacrifice any of the mature content that is present in the PC version. The ESRB rating has already been established, and CDProjekt promises not to spare even a drop of blood.

CDProjekt has also confirmed to press that Xbox 360 users will get the same free DLC that PC gamers received. Whether or not Xbox 360 users will get any exclusive DLC remains to be seen, but such a move would be out of character for the developer which PC gamers the world over have come to respect for their commitment to the platform.

A point which will come as a relief to many Xbox 360 gamers, is that the console version will not make use of Kinect. CDProjekt wants The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 experience to be as good as the PC experience, and hopes to entice PC gamers who already own it to double up and buy it on Xbox 360 – although what the benefit of doing so will be remains unclear.

Word has it that the pre-alpha code that is being shown at E3 is remarkably impressive, boasting some of the best visuals seen on console to date. This should come as no surprise, seeing as The Witcher 2 on PC is one of the most gorgeous games ever made.

CDProjekt will be spending the next few months polishing the game up for release before the end of the year, and when it does hits shelves it’s surely a virtual day-one purchase for any console-bound RPG fan.
