Microsoft has announced, presumably amid much smoke, rubbing together of clawed hands, and maniacal laughter, that it’s prepping to launch a new, expensive, 320GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 S model.
The hard drive carries a recommended retail price of $129.99 over the pond, or just over R1,000 at current exchange rates (before you factor in shipping, import duties, and everyone in the distribution channel taking their cut).
Best case scenario, this makes the 320GB drive cost about R3 per gigabyte or – in the vernacular – “still a bit much, isn’t it?”.
I’m sure it’ll look really nice next to the official $79.99, 16GB USB drive Microsoft released last year.
We have contacted Microsoft SA for local retail pricing and availability information and are waiting on their response.
Oh well, apparently it comes with a download token for Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, which might be the worst game I’ve played this year – but it’s free.
The 320GB hard drive is already included with the special edition Gears of War 3 console, as well as the incoming Star Wars console, which might look like a cool bonus but it’s really just keeping up with the standard 320GB PS3.
