Rumour: Xbox 720 – smaller, cheaper, to use Windows 9?

8 November 2011

One of the internet’s most trusted sources when it comes to anything Microsoft related, MSNerd, has spilled some tasty morsels regarding the company’s next generation console.

MSNerd is a well respected Microsoft leak blogger, so we’re taking note of this one.

Refered to as the Xbox 720 in the public domain, Microsoft’s next generation console has apparently been given the codename “Loop”.

The leak claims it will be much smaller than the Xbox 360, and that it will also be a lot cheaper to manufacture. Furthermore, the new console will be based on a modified version of Windows 9.

According to MSNerd, “It will use a Zune HD-like hardware platform—a  ‘main’ processor with multiple dedicated assistive cores for graphics, AI, physics, sound, networking, encryption and sensors. It will be custom designed by Microsoft and two partners based on the ARM architecture.”

Of course Microsoft has not announced or even made mention of its next generation console in any official capacity, but many are expecting a reveal during next year’s E3.
