Xbox ditching MS points and dashboard revamp coming: report

20 May 2013

A new update for the Xbox 360 dashboard is on its way, and according to sources close to Microsoft plans, the new design will help prepare gamers for the next-generation Xbox’s user-interface.

The forthcoming interface is said to resemble what Microsoft is preparing for Windows 8.1, which includes smaller Live Tiles and other features, such as dark and light themes.

The new interface is reportedly going to go live in August 2013.

On top of the news regarding the new dashboard, it’s also said that Microsoft is phasing out the Points payment system, replacing it with a new gift card system.

Microsoft is holding its next-generation Xbox reveal on Tuesday, 21 May 2013, where the company is expected to showcase the details on the 360’s successor, and future plans with the current console.
