Microsoft is said to be considering the idea of having Xbox One owners acquire achievements through watching TV.
The news comes from a patent that has been spotted, which was filed in November 2012, and essentially describes the concept of viewers gaining Xbox One achievements for reaching milestones when watching television shows.
“Television viewing tends to be a passive experience for a viewer, without many opportunities for the viewer to engage or have interactive experiences with the presented content,” the application’s description reads. “To increase interactive viewing and encourage a user to watch one or more particular items of video content, awards and achievements may be tied to those items of video content.”
On top of the achievements, the patent also makes mention of rewards in the form of new clothes and props for avatars, virtual in-game money or even physical prizes.
