VG247 is claiming that a well-respected source has told them that a cheaper model of the Xbox One console is indeed in the works for launch later in 2014.
Apparently Microsoft has been informing their publishing partners about the plan.
No new price has been determined – previous rumours pegged it at $399 (down from the current $499) which would put it in competitive range of Sony’s PlayStation 4.
VG247’s source could not confirm rumours about a new disc-less version of the console.
A load of Xbox One rumours emerged last week, and while the default position is to remain sceptical, it seems that Microsoft is taking things seriously, reportedly pursuing legal action against the leaker.
This doesn’t mean any of it was true, but the leaker must have said something that riled up the mothership.
The rumours included a SA launch date for the Xbox One (October 2013) and mentioned loads of games and additions to the Xbox One product line up.
Hopefully this new cheaper version of the Xbox One will launch in time for the console’s appearance on our shores.
