Save R1, 500: Microsoft to make all Xbox One controllers remappable

All Xbox One Controllers to be Remappable

The Xbox One Elite Controller is about as good as controllers get, but it comes with a serious premium as a result – just over R2, 200.

It’s expensive, granted, but it can do a heck of a lot, a lot more than the standard Xbox One controller for sure.

Most of the additional functionality comes down to the hardware implemented, but since its release, a good deal of Xbox One owners have asked why aren’t the standard controllers remappable?

The ability to remap the controller should come down to software rather than hardware, so why not allow all controllers to remap their buttons – it’d be a definite win for Microsoft.

As it turns out, we will be getting that very feature for non-Elite controllers.

The feature, reports Ars Technica, “will allow Xbox users to reassign the buttons on their controller to their liking, including swapping around the placement of buttons like A and B. Button remapping came to the PlayStation 4 earlier this year via the 2.50 firmware update.”

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed exactly when the feature will drop, but we suspect it will be soon.

If you think about it, the increased speed and improved user interface thanks to the new Xbox One experience, Xbox 360 backwards compatibility and button remapping makes for a really appealing collection of features for the Xbox One.
