It's more than a little unfair that you're singling me out here, Jan. Considering my history on this forum I think I should actually be commended for how civil I've been thus far. The worst I've done is call people overly sensitive, which is far from a personal attack. This is in contrast to the other posters, every second one of which has so far called me a troll or insulted my intelligence. I think I've shown nothing more than restraint here.
You can keep insulting my intelligence all you want and you can keep touting your reasons for why you think a punchy punchy Jesus game is a mockery of christianity. What you're missing is that offense can only be taken, not given and offense is a very subjective thing. It seems it is also very selectively applied.
How many of you here played and enjoyed Assassin's Creed? Ike009, you loved it as far as I remember. How many of you are aware that the game series basically portrayed christianity as a falsehood and alien conspiracy? It makes many popular bible stories out to be nothing more than illusions created by artifacts left behind by the aliens who came before us. Hell, the story claimed Jesus turned water into wine using the Apple of Eden. The pope in Assassin's Creed 2 says the bible is nothing more than lies and superstitions. Moses used mind control and illusions to trick the israelites into believing he parted the red sea for them. The AC series seems a lot more religiously destructive than this game, so I'm a little flabbergasted that so many people are taking offense here, but loved those games.
Suddenly Jesus punching zombies doesn't seem that bad, does it? Offense is subjective. You're welcome to take offense at whatever you want, just don't demand that everyone respect your right to take offense. That's the point I'm trying to make here.

The reason why I started replying to you is because you said you didn't understand why the game is offensive. Now you tell me that I can keep giving reasons but that it doesn't matter. Because no matter what reasons I give, offense is a very subjective thing. Is that what you are telling me? So basically yes, it may be offensive to Christians but that's just how they feel so it's not really offensive at all!
So there's another game that is also really bad towards Christianity and yet no one complains about it! So if people didn't find the other game offensive then it means that they can't find First of Jesus offensive either.

People did find Assassin's Creed offensive. Does that mean that they can take this game as offensive too? At least it looks like that's how you are trying to see all of this.

On my phone at a huge choir contest at the moment, so I can't reply in too much detail, BUT:
I refrain from playing games, watching movies or listening to music that blatantly makes a mockery or openly blasphemes my religion and/or deity. I just don't make a big issue of it or debate with others as to why they should understand my point of view.
I won't play this game, or South Park games or watch South Park or similar shows, because I find it offensive. As much as I enjoy Simpsons, they often go a bit overboard as well and makes me uneasy. I didn't play the earlier AC games because of the references to Christianity.
I try to keep an open mind as much as possible and respect everyone's beliefs and opinions and I just ask the same in return. If I happen to casually state that I find it offensive and you disagree with me, I expect us to be like "meh, cool" and join up in a multiplayer game and have a blast.
This thread brings to mind the whole "someone's WRONG in the INTERNET" comic. I'm sure Eugene will oblige with a link to it soon enough.

Indeed, I didn't actually know about the controversy until now and I actually finished the first game. The same thing with the Golden Compass movie. I watched that movie and had no idea about any of the issues until it was mentioned and I watched the movie again. With this game however it is impossible to miss.

I myself am a Christian (Not something I like to make public fact because it is true, it's not easy being a Christian online) and have engaged in several debates over in the Metaphysical section on SAgamer, but let's not turn this thread into something similar.
People in this day and age get offended far to easily. Period. Does that mean that they don't have the right to still get offended? No. Whether or not you believe someone is getting his/her panties in a knot over something stupid is purely subjective and cannot be dismissed because you believe it to be stupid. Simple.
I understand where Solitude is coming from where people still have the right to get offended if they believe something to seriously be offensive.
I also understand where Graal is coming from though, people to get offended far to easily but don't take it so far dude, you end up coming across as really thick when you simply refuse to understand where the others ide comes from.
I, personally don't take offense to this game, but that's just me.
I did take offense to Assassin's Creed though! That 3rd installment was HORRIBLE
!!! Oh man, I used to be such a huge fan up until AC3 (Even Revelations was pretty good), but after Black Flag I am a fan of the series again

I did notice it but it played along brilliantly to the story line as well. Like I said it wasn't like AC was made with the sole purpose to mock Jesus. It makes sense in the AC universe, this doesn't in any universe.

@Duke Dude: Did you take offence to AC3 because it was just such a BAD game or because of the subject matter? Hard to distinguish sarcasm in such a "serious business" thread... But AC4 is great, I agree. Both in terms of gameplay, graphics, sound, production and non-offensive subject matter (from what I've seen, but I'm barely 25% in)...

No, the only point you're proving is that you can't separate your right to practice religion from your right to be offended. I respect the former, not the latter. You're conflating the two and claiming I'm intolerant and disrespectful towards your religious beliefs.
Just close the Steam store tab for Fists of Jesus, sit back, put on some "Jesus take the wheel", relax and feel the anger ebb away. It's really not worth getting so worked up about a game about Jesus punching zombies.
It's still intricately tied in to the main plot. The plot essentially says "hurr hurr, religion is false it was aliens all along derp". (shitty plot, btw)
It's because I genuinely don't understand why people feel offended by a game in which you play Jesus punching zombies. I'm pretty sure that if Jesus exists he isn't pouting, pacing up and down his room in heaven and humming the tune to How Could This Happen To Me from Simple Plan.
The only other time we see people react so strongly to the portrayal of their god in popular media is with Islamic folk, and when that happens usually we call them fanatics. When it happens to Christians, we call them martyrs. How does that work?

Like some 5-year-olds having an adult discussion.
I'm not pointing fingers or trying to make enemies, but this really isn't going anywhere constructively.
