Dragon Age Inquisition

i would LOVE to play DA:O but don't have the time :-( I am already so massively backlogged. I have had DA:I sitting on my desk for the past couple weeks and not touched. still busy with Far Cry 4 and Starcraft 2

My backlog is quite a sad story. I started with StarCraft 2, got about 7 missions into Wings of Liberty and haven't had time to continue. Then I also wanna complete Skyrim (about 10% in), L.A. Noire (about 65% done), the Mass Effect trilogy (about 5% into the first one) and then I realised how much I enjoyed C&C3 last night. :(

Those are only the games I'm TRYING to play - I have roughly 150 more to start with and 20 that are on hold.

Bottom line: So many games; too little time.

Hi everyone. So, I started up DA:I weeks ago and got past the first few opening missions. It was around launch (on PS4) and I found the animations terrible, the combat crummy, and the story failed to grab me, but I'm only a few hours in.

I'm going to try sinking in a few hours over this weekend - is there any hope for me enjoying this or am I just an old jaded cynic? What about it has captivated everyone?

For context, I loved DA:O on PC so I'll be measuring DA:I against that.

Graphically it's a looker. I like the story so far; I'm never really picky about story (a decent premise and I'm sold).

Combat can become repetitive, with certain execution of certain moves doing in only a limited number of variations.

If BioWare can sort out the controls (for PC) and make mouse buttons (like thumb and MMB) work, it would make things a lot easier than having to reach across the keyboard to reach a key place very much out of the way of other keys.

Landscape is a joy to look at as there are so many beautiful vistas and just all around gorgeous scenery.

Farming is also nice; going back and forth between places finding materials.

In spite of any negatives, I enjoy it for what it's worth, and really looking forward to playing further and eventually give my subjective opinion on the game as a whole.

I'm supposed to have reviewed it, but I think the ship has almost sailed on that one. Just haven't had the time to sink into the game and enjoy what it has to offer.

Thanks for the pointers though; I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

I don't have it on console, but I've been playing it on PC using the xbox controller, find it better than the keyboard and mouse combination.

this has been my general view for any game, apart from RTS. I even play FPS games on PC, with controller :) i just really like having all the commands close at hand. you should try Diablo with a controller to fully appreciate the improvement!

Sacrilege! You will burn at the stake!

I was really disappointed with the ending. I won't say anything to spoil it for anyone, but I haven't felt this ripped-off by an ending in a while.

I'm nearly done I think, will give my thoughts once I've completed it.

The game is fun, BUT, if you have an Nvidia graphics card you are basically screwed and can only play the game for maybe an hour before your graphic card forgets that it is actually a graphics card.

Currently I'm not allowed to play the game further because one of the cut-scenes has decided that crashing my game should be way more fun than actually playing the game, progressing the story and kitting out my characters with cool gear...

This is really frustrating and irritating beyond compare! When the game works, it works beautifully, some bugs and glitches here and there, but nothing worth crying about EXCEPT the Nvidia / DA:I borkedness

Anyone else have some fixes/workarounds for these issues. Did google found loads, did most of them, but still crash.

I'm having almost no issues on my 970. I played a solid 5 hour session yesterday without any crashes. Have you done all the recommended settings? Origin in-game off, no overlays, full-screen windowed, v-sync off.

i really HATE using a keyboard to run around. digital versus analogue. thumbsticks for movement, infinitely better :)

But mouse aim is objectively better than that slow ass joystick turn... :(

this might be relevant in MP gaming where twitch reactions are critical, but i'm a slow-a$$ SP gamer, so i don't mind :) comfort over speed, any old day.

Haha! For me I wan't to pull my hair out when aiming with a controller, is too slow and inaccurate, definitely no comfort for me. :p

I have x2 980's and have never had a crash? Runs smoothly since the latest patch too.

I don't think it's Nvidia.

I have some FPS issues and texture flickering on my 2 x 780s. Running at ultra, getting nearly constant 60fps, though.

Some better drivers from Nvidia would be appreciated, though.

Well, surprisingly, AngryJoe reckons the Xbone version is the most preferable (and PC least)? Dunno how/why.

I have 2 PCs right next to each other. Mine has a newer Radeon card, the other, my girlfriends, has my older nvidia card. They both running pretty much with the exact same settings (I haven't needed to change any of the settings you specified). The only difference I've noticed in performance is hers loads quicker than mine, which I put down to a better CPU. I've seen no problems that are specific to Nvidia. We've both played for extended periods of time with no noticeable degradation in performance.
