So it seems that we're going to be having a Krypton series now... I'm not comfortable with this to be honest, especially if Gotham is anything to go by (yes, I'm not a fan of the missteps in Gotham). To be fair, Syfy is handling this, which could be a glimmer of hope since I kind of reckon there is an opportunity for some good world building and lore as opposed to the detective focus on Gotham (which isn't the problem I have with Gotham, the execution is to be honest). But yeah, those are quick thoughts on having Krypton's story told.
I saw that. Comic books seem to be a cash cow for TV shows these days. They always differ from the source material (which isn't always a bad thing), so people have misconceptions about the actual characters.
I haven't watched Flash, Gotham or Constantine yet (haven't gotten around to it yet), only the first season of Arrow. I can only hope that they don't screw it up. Also, there's a Supergirl show in the works.
Flash is actually good I'll admit and they've kind of got Barry Allen/The Flash character down pretty well, and in the grand scheme of things it does occupy the same universe as Arrow (and it's been mentioned that Supergirl will be the same). So I kind of like DC's idea of building a TV universe around these shows that is not in the same vein as their cinematic counterparts; it's a nice contrast to what Marvel has already established with their cinematic universe being complemented by their TV showings (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in particular). Gotham had the potential for greatness, but the missed opportunities and general story and character direction misses the mark for me.
I'm kind of excited for Supergirl because it'll join the DC TV universe (and if the recent Flash and Arrow crossovers are anything to go by, Supergirl in the mix could be fun), but I'm not yet convinced about Krypton (sceptical Dee is sceptical), it could work but I'm not making any bets.
IMHO DC made an error by splitting up the cinematic universe from the TV universe, as they will contain the same characters. You'll have two versions of the same character. That fits the parallel universe-bill from comic books, but they could be doing so much more. That's another show I haven't watched: Agents of SHIELD.
Shit. Never replied to Dee's post.
DC have some issues, but we shouldn't forget that they have the longest running comic book related TV show ever to have been broadcast.
With Arrow, they are introducing more and more fringe characters of the Justice League which I feel is a wasted opportunity to build a truly groundbreaking universe. I wouldn't watch a Firestorm movie (ok, I probably would), but I would totally watch a TV show featuring the guy. Then having him making an appearance in a Justice League movie creates a gateway for leaving character introductions to TV shows and more Ass-whooping on the silver screen.
Anyway... On an unrelated note, Doom Patrol is breaking my brain.
Holy crap, I just topped the non-reply record!
I totally get what you're saying; done right, a unified TV and Movie universe would be amazeballs, but I just worry about convolution.
Also, I've been reading some Marvel stuff since I last mentioned them last time, I've read some Iron Man*, Amazing Spider Man*, Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider Man. Goodness, I must admit I'm having a good time with Iron Man and everything Spidey. I'm also coming to realize how good Marvel is with events (Spider-Verse is f**king awesome!!!). At least that's the impression I'm getting from Spider-Verse. I'm really loving Spidey
!!!
*The current runs
I need to get into the current Spider-Man stuff. I've heard good things about what Slott is doing with Webhead. I'm still doing the whole Doom Patrol thing. I have so many other stuff to get around to...
'Filthy casuals' - this is how we grow. Going to read Rocket Raccoon #4-5 tonight. I cannot recommend this book enough to people. Great art, fun read, perfect comic book for anyone.I also need to check out Doom Patrol. And I have a feeling you'll love Spider-Verse. I just realized my biggest problem with Forever Evil as I keep reading the Spider-Verse stuff; convolution is the name of the game with DC and its crossover events.
I just realized how much my geek culture paradigm has shifted in the past 2 - 3 years. Initially, the only comics I'd ever read were a few of issues of Supes, and some Bats (this extends to other things like games, anime, etc). And now I'm gobbling up all sorts of things from games, comics, anime, to other geek-culture related media. I think the Mygaming community has really been a catalyst to my awakening. Not just a "filthy casual" anymore

Do it. I checked that box set out the other day and the Joker mask is awesome. You get a mask set for every collection so far, the Owl mask was pretty cool.I have a similar story: I was heavily into all things Vertigo, Image and a few indie publishers. I had a grudge against DC for whatever reason. This thread led me to explore the DCU and I have ended up completely reversing my opinions on the DCU. They have such great writers who create excellent stories.
I'm busy reading Batman: Court of Owls. Loving it so far. Death of the family is next. I am considering getting that edition with the Joker mask![]()
