SA Community Game Dev - For learners too

May I ask how we're going to communicate. I'd like to get up to speed and know what the aim is to start researching etc.
I think for now. Let's do an opening session. We will use either Skype or team speak so we can talk, and mix it up with some twitch.tv streaming so everyone can see the slides.

The opening will consist of the following:-
1. Introducing each other.
2. Engine decision
3. Source control
4. Human resource management

Please don't take everything said in the forums literal, things can change.

Will this be an arena multiplayer shooter? Or a story driven Single player game? I can't code for sh*t, but I can attempt to write a story if that's something you're looking for. Get the theme and character going. It would help with the development too if you guys have an idea of the direction it will go.

Hmmm...well ill add you for the lore. Discussions have to happen first.

What we need is something chaotic and fun. Like how Unreal 2003 was just mindless slaughter with friends. Things today feel too serious.

I would love to be involved but not sure where i can help I have good SQL knowledge studied C++(never used it ) but generally am a quick learner

Lemme know if you need my help. I'm very proficient (might even say masterful) in C#, T-SQL, HTML (incl 5), CSS (incl 3) and JavaScript. Have some Java and C++ experience, but very rusty. I can help myself quite well in Corel Graphics Suite and Inkscape as well.

Seriously awsum to see some SQL guys popping up. Could set up a backend for a stats system for game optimization and for user reference. Does any1 know if unity3d SQL? I know that unreal has deployed a plug in.

Could probably build our own plugin. If we're looking at C# in Unity it can't be that difficult to integrate a proprietary stats module.

Look at me talking like I'm already part of this team. :D

ha ha awsum no problem. Seems unity is the option. In the end we can port the code to any other engine if we are unhappy with anything.

oltman - Please advise your area's.

I can be responsible for any of the following:
- motivational cards
- weekly jokes
- inflation of balloons

I have also just signed up for a Unity 3D course, so might soon be able to help in there as well. I think I will be much handier in level design and general gameplay design than any coding development.

A note: 3D Studio Max is free for 3 years if you sign up for a course at Udemy ;)

Alright, so the TS has been arranged for a meet up.Please can the people who are going to get involved PM me their email addresses.
I will pass on the Date and TS details through the reply.

I don't have any experience in any of the categories, but I have a buddy who has experience in Unity3d.
He created some pretty sweet (zen like exploration) mobile games.

Will check if he's interested in joining yous :)

Where? How?
I am currently on my phone, but will send you the details tomorrow. It is the educational 36 month version of 3D Studio Max 2015. Does not seem to be nerfed, but then I only installed it without really doing much on it.

EDIT: ok, the link:

http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all

When you create an Autodesk account you have to add your school and Student number (I think) but I received a link from Udemy that had the school and ID embedded.

Hope it works for you too!
