Comic Books

Lol bro [emoji14]. I'm waiting for the next death vigil issue. Amazing Spiderman #14 is also out soon (with the conclusion of Spider-verse), I'm hype about that. Also, loving the hydra undertones showing themselves in Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider Man... I've really enjoyed the Spidey stuff in general.
I'm going to start getting Spider-Man in trades. I feel like I'm missing out there.
I'm happy to see that I am not the only one that feels this way about the "epic" events. It feels like each one is trying to outdo the other. Whatever happened to the good old days of Onslaught and Hush and the rest? :D
Yeah man. Self contained 12 issue arcs which require no additional titles. I love those. Mind you, we just had Zero Year in Batman... On wait, issue 25 of most other titles were tie-ins.

I agree. They normally start out well enough, but throughout the middle towards the end, I just end up throwing up arms in frustration. I felt that way for Trinity War and Forever Evil.

That's my big problem with DC's recent events, when you're in the midst of the event, you start feeling like these guys are goading you to buy other comics, otherwise you lose important plot points. That, good man, grinds my gears. If you're going to have tie-ins, treat them like side-quests; making these tie-ins essential to following the event is a purely shitty move.

Totally agreed! One of the last "mega events" I got was DC's Final Crisis. That whole arc just became a mess in the end with all the sub-plots and tie-ins. Sadly I did end up getting most of them, and honestly, most felt like filler and I can't say I remember any of the "extras" making me go "wow, I did not see that coming". When it got to the Superman Beyond in 3D I was like WTF, no idea what I'm reading. Did get the cool cover of Supes carrying Bats remains though (erm, spoiler?).

Shit.... I didn't go past the comic shop last month... So I picked my stuff up today... Bill was R1033.

Some nice Star Wars, Batman, Judge Dredd, Multiversity, Lobo and others.

Ouch, Cosmic right? I used to get bills like that as I also only came through every second week or so. I think they miss my business...

It's seems the hatred for unnecessary mega-events is universal. So why do they keep doing them? I suppose making your business lucrative is more important than keeping your customers happy :P

There is one exception that I have to make. I read a lot Flashpoint and the base story was excellent. Most of the spin-offs where pretty damn awful. Although I did like the Superman one.

And then there's the Batman spin-off. That was one of the best batman stories that I have every read. It's truly an amazing and thought-provoking look on what could have been in Gotham, and ultimately, how the fate of Gotham is unalterable. What a flipping amazing story. I can't recommend that story highly enough. If you see the Flashpoint featuring Batman trade, buy it without hesitation. Just don't read the other stories in that volume: Blech.

I also got the Flashpoint comics, and yes the Batman tie-in was very good. Also got the DVD based on that and enjoyed that as well. And I don't know if you have been watching The Flash but I got a sneaking feeling it's loosely based on the Flashpoint thus far (just minus all the other super heroes).

I haven't been watching it. I thought I'd wait for the end of the first season to hear if the whole thing is good and then make a decision.

Yeah. This was a two-month-load. Kept it in the car overnight, my girlfriend wouldn't have been very friendly if she saw it.

They make them because people keep buying them. I haven't done so in a long time. The last one was Battle of the Atom, and I only did that because of the X-Men anniversary. Although Secret Wars does look amazing.

I have nothing on the chopping block this time around, apart from Arkham Manor. But that has been cancelled for like three months already.

Comics thread on the second page of Off-Topic? I can't have any of that.

There's a Superman graphic novel sale going on at Comixology https://www.comixology.com/comics-sale

There are some of my favourite Superman stories on there, including:

 • All-Star Superman
 • Red Son
 • Superman: For All Seasons
 • Superman: Birthright (disclosure, I haven't read this one, but Saint_Dee goes on about it all the time. So now, I'll get this).

I encourage you to get some of those books. I was never a Superman fan and thought that the character was lame. But then I read the above mentioned books and some others, consider my mind changed.

Still available yes, and I'm still busy with lists as well. Last few nights the power has been off from 6 to 10 so can't get around to doing everything I want to :o

I'll have another look. The Iron Fist books make me giddy. Also, I've got Phoenix War Song HC, but not End Song.
