Hi everyone,

I got the notice that I was kicked from the group last night. That's all good.

Just want to say thanks for letting me be part of the group and that I hope the group grows much bigger so you can spread the GA love to the rest of the gaming community.

Thanks. It was fun.

Cheers.

P.s. - I finally got a relatively ok 2nd hand PC from a friend so now I can work on my massive backlog.

I'm a bit surprised that you were kicked Dampi. Yes you won a lot but you were lucky. You also gave away a lot of games.

Erm wth, why was dampi kicked?

He definitely wasn't removed for winning, that was some very good luck but I won't blame him for it. The problem is that the group and giveaways are for people that contribute to the forums, and just posting in the giveaway thread doesn't contribute anything of worth. If he posts more outside this thread, I would have no issue with adding him back.

That's a fair comment and I have to agree. Go post Dampi!

Can we get a list of people who were also purged to see if there are any other surprises? I certainly would have objected to kicking Dampi.

I just went through his post history, and sure most of his posts are in this thread, but on a weekly basis or so he does post on other threads. What would have been deemed an acceptable out-of-this-thread post ratio, and when was that agreed upon?

What would you say is fair? He had 10 posts outside this thread in the last 3 months, most of which were related to other competitions.

The Rules state: You must be actively posting on the forums during the last two months (at least 20 decent posts per month, no spam, no nonsense)

That was one of the first rules we put in place, no-one has ever argued against it, but I'd like to hear your opinion if you think it's unfair.

Unfortunately I don't have list. Most of the people that were removed haven't posted in several months, and a majority of them probably didn't even know about the giveaways.

And I supported his decision - It was one of the reasons why I left the group for a bit. I feel there was a lot of people not being active on the rest of the forums. These giveaways were started for the MYGAMING community - aka active members of the forums. Not just every random person who wanted to win crap.

also think there should be some form of giving back. there are people here that have won a lot but haven't put up a GA of their own at all. that's not right by my book.

That's not really fair though. There are also people that have won consoles but haven't given away any consoles of their own. The rewards are not just for people who do giveaways, they're for people that contribute in some way.

yes but the console wasn't given away by a community member

but it's ok, I'll just keep putting lvl limits on my GA's to keep the spongers at bay :p

Yup, as mentioned before, it's up to the person who does the giveaway to decide who is eligible. :)

i think its a fair decision. and i am also avoiding entering competitions where i know, deep down, i won't get a chance to play the game. better to give someone else a shot. same goes for the XBONE comp. I am not making any extra posts as I already have an xbone and would rather the prize go to someone who needs one :)

Yeah, as Eugene pointed out, if you wanna leave out the spongers (read: reward those who have contributed a bit more), just set a decent level on your giveaway. Its what I do...the higher I feel a game is rated, the higher I make the level. So indie/bundle games are lower priority (therefore require lower level) than the AAA (even if they're not the latest its still AAA ok!!) games given away.

Level 3/4 is reserved for that kinda stuff :)

Well the rules don't specifically state "outside of the give-away thread", and he has posted way more than 20 posts in the last month if you include those. Or otherwise, you would be able to take it up with the moderators of the forum if you feel that he is simply spamming.

Do we really want to go around punishing somebody who has given away 33 gifts to this very community http://www.steamgifts.com/user/dampi256?

Is it at all possible that you resent him because he has won a lot of games which he probably won't ever be able to play? Has that contributed to your decision to kick him at all?

Can we have a vote on it and let the majority decide whether he should stay or be booted?

If you are not active on the MyGaming forums, outside this thread and during activity based competitions, for long periods of time you will be removed from the Steam group.

Wyzak, it has always been for ACTIVE all over the forums members, not just one thread members. Because that is why we created the new community group, random people joined the original steam group and non members from the forums won comps. It was the main reason for being stricter - and yes we got slack but I promise you - if he posts more outside the thread he will be invited back to the group. I have nothing against him winning, then I would have to have an issue with everyone who won multiple times.

Very well, I will start the poll. But I will certainly be disappointed by this community if it decides to exile one of it's own.

phalen - it also doesn't say that one thread is exempt.

Edit: I can assure you that it's not about personal loyalty towards dampi, but it is loyalty towards him as a member of the team, or a part of the pack. I am more concerned about the seemingly underhanded way in which it was done. No post saying "we are going to purge these members, please say yay or nay", no official warning to become more active, no week long suspension, just a summary boot and we had to find out about it from Dampi himself.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.
