The MyGaming Steam Community giveaways complaints and meta-discussion thread

Very well, I will start the poll. But I will certainly be disappointed by this community if it decides to exile one of it's own.
phalen - it also doesn't say that one thread is exempt.

Hi...did you not read my post? I copied directly from page 1 rules of the forum. It is the very next rule after the one Eugene posted (which you quoted). It explicitly states what phalen was trying to convey....

Rules and guidelines

These giveaways are being done by MyGaming community members, for fellow members that contribute in a positive way to the MyGaming forum, and as such we will show NO leniency to spammers or people who do not follow the rules as decided by the community.

These giveaways are for long standing, active members of the MyGaming.co.za forums only.

 • You need to be a member on the forums for a minimum of two months to be eligible to enter.
 • If you want to join the MyGaming Community Steam group, post a link to your Steam profile in this thread. It will look something like this: http://steamcommunity.com/id/metalsoup/
 • You must be actively posting on the forums during the last two months (at least 20 decent posts per month, no spam, no nonsense)
 • If you are not active on the MyGaming forums, outside this thread and during activity based competitions, for long periods of time you will be removed from the Steam group.
 • If you aren't well known to the person who's giveaway you are entering, please leave a comment with your forum username if it's different from your Steam name on their Giveaway comment section.
 • If you want to create giveaways, please make them exclusive to members of the MyGaming community group
 • If you see anybody in the group that you don't think deserves to be there, please send me a PM with your reason.

Good luck and have fun, and a special thanks to all contributors!

There it is, seems like it requires a re-read.

I read your post. What is a long period of time? A day, a week, a month, 6 months? How much activity outside the thread is required to be deemed active? He is active outside the thread, but apparently not active enough.

Wow guys. It's pretty disappointing that a thread that is supposed to encourage community has degenerated into a petty argument about who should and who should not be here.

Thanks for all the giveaways guys, I have sincerely appreciated it and I have enjoyed the games. I don't think I'll be participating here anymore. I think I am going to try BeoTek's pay it forward suggestion instead. Good luck finding a resolution to this mess because it is only going to fracture the small community that we have here already.

Additionally, this should rather be in the MyGaming Steam Community Giveaways - Ethics and Discussion thread, not here.

Perhaps it would be easier for you to understand if I combine these two rules, since you seem to think the one invalidates the other.

You must be actively posting on the forums during the last two months (at least 20 decent posts per month, no spam, no nonsense)

Yes certainly, and specify the length of a long time.

I'm also not a fan of doing GA's with steamgifts anymore. No particular reason, I just decided to start doing my own thing when I want to gift something. Like with Grim Dawn where I looked for people who had it on their wishlist and the "guess my fav Borderlands character" GA I did.

I really like BeoTek's Pay it Forward idea which is why I bought another BL2 GOTY copy yesterday and looked for a member of Mygaming who had it on their wishlist and PM'd them the steam key.

I might still post GA's in this thread from time to time, but I'll probably use BeoTek's idea primarily for any future GA's.

Looks like that is the way to go yes.

as indicated by the quote you made from Eugene's post

now, when i read that, it is very clear to me that the 'forums' indicate the entire forum base - not a specific thread like the steam community giveaways thread.

Eugene also said this, not sure if you saw it.:

you also said to let the majority vote on this - you seem to be the only one who is uneasy with this decision. everyone else who have commented on this said it was a fair decision.

on his 33 gifts donated - very nice. i also see that you won 11 of them in the past (first 25 on page, i cant see the 2nd page for some reason, only 1-25 of 34). is it perhaps loyalty that sparked your unrest about the matter?

Just my 5c worth on this and then I'm gone. :)

Granted, I was not very active on this entire forum on a whole because I have other online forums/mediums I visit regularly.

Yes, I have not been playing many of the games I've won mainly because my current laptop, which I used for work, recording music and gaming for the past 2 years, is old and out dated. Luckily I have received a relatively game worthy PC so that will change.

I totally accept and understand the ruling and have no issues with it as I can totally see how my actions in the past have also made some of you very unhappy nl. getting banned (because I did not read the GA rules) for being naive enough to regift some GA's to someone, at times to people in the group that entered those GA's, that I felt really wanted the game more than me at the moment. (Don't do that.)

Thing is that I see I have reached 1000 posts today, lol, and that looks like loads to me as I am someone that cannot be on the forum and post loads every day. That is why I don't even enter the 25 or 50 top forum member comps anymore as I just can't keep posting to get to that level and I am not willing to go to a thread where I have to post nonsense just to get my post count up to acceptable levels.

So, it looks like I will unfortunately not be able to post a tone worth of articles or comments in other areas of this forum as I have a YouTube channel I am building up, posting in other forums and web sites and I play games on console as well as mobile.. oh, and work. Point I want to make is that, if MyGaming was the only forum I frequented on a daily basis and it was my only source of IT related info or way to connect to the gaming community, then I would be lank busy on it and be one of the top "posters", but it isn't and that is unfortunately going to mean that I will probably never be able to participate in this GA group, which for me is a shame.

I love sharing with the community and giving stuff away when I have finances to do so. That means I will have to be doing open GA's and not group specific ones, which I really want to do as I would much rather want my GA's to go to a small group of gamers which I have grown to like and know rather than to some Russian syndicate gamer person thing. :)

That is just how I feel about it and how I see a group like this. A bunch of like minded gamers that want to be generous and giving whether they receive anything back or not. :)

Ta.

Very well, since we're all abandoning ship, I would just like to thank everyone that took part in the giveaways. It was fun while it lasted.

I hope you appreciate the thanks that the community gave you for your 1000 posts ;) Oh the irony.

That's what I thought as well.

Off course I do bro. I am thankful for every game I won. Goodness. That isn't even an issue and I got way more than what I deserve hence the stupid move on my part to give stuff away that I won. ;)

can everyone just take a step back and chill :) let's all calm down and not throw the baby out with the bathwater here! this thread has been pretty awesome in fostering good vibes amongst the members. i don't see why we should throw it all away over a single disagreement about application of the rules.

I agree with Hiro. I'm definitely not out. I enjoy giving and I enjoy winning. Lets keep to the enjoying part. :)

It's a gaming forum and we shouldn't take everything too seriously. This is my home. It's a place for us to relax and chat with friends.

So just a reminder that I still have my Tomb Raider giveaway with another giveaway next month.

Ta.

No offence, but see I havent been curating the group in a while, which is one of the reasons I left the community, I have a hell of a lot of other crap going that is a lot more important. The best way this should have been handled was to send a pm. . . If you had sent that to me or the others in a pm, I can tell you now we would have added you back with in a few days.

But I officially washed my hands of this because throwing toys out of the cot like this irritates the crap out of me, not your post specifically, but everything in general.

*my 2 cents*

I like the Pay-It-Forward method as implemented and suggested by BeoTeK.

If someone on your Friends List has a game in their wishlist and you wish to gift it to them, that's great! Whether you wish to be anonymous or not.

This way, if that person is "lucky enough", they can get a game (preferred, as assumed by wishlist) of something they obviously want.

Whereas Steam gifting many wish to win one prize, and you sits with (for arguments' sake) 20 entrants. You may win or may not win.

Maybe this community wants to keep SteamGifts alongside the Pay-It-Forward as well, I don't know, given what I have read so far...

OOPS. Looks like this was the straw that broke the camels back. Not the intention though. It is good for the group to see these posted in order to learn from and adjust rules or even expectations. :)

It was only a matter of time before the wheels would come off if certain members were waiting with bated breath to stab others in the back.

If however we can go back to being a true community, then I see no reason why this thread has to stop.
