Microtransactions

A tumultuous and controversial issue in our community is one of Microtransactions and their place in the gaming industry right now.

I would like to simply ask if anyone has in fact made use of in game microtransactions for whatever purchase and your reasons for doing so.

I would also ask that you detail your thoughts on the entire process and how it affected your though process concerning the particular game you made the purchase for.

Also, let's limit the scope of the conversation to non pay-to-win games and simply on optional purchases.

It's like DLC, I don't see the point most of the time and some developers really take the consumer for a ride with these.

It's become a little cash cow for the industry and some developers are holding back in game items/skins/etc with the sole purpose of being able to sell it to you AFTER you have bought the title. The other side of the issue is that some people will pay for it. Personally I refrain from any microtransactions and would rather grind or just go without. Then again, there's a sucker born every minute.

This pretty much. I've never spent a cent on microtransactions and don't plan to do so. If it reaches a point where a game becomes very restricted without paying for those things, then I'll avoid those games too. Games are already too expensive imo. I've bought DLC here and there, but will only really go for extra campaigns and not bother with outfits/weapons etc unless it's dirt cheap. I'm not a fan of either practice though so avoid it as much as I can.

Not a big fan at all! i used to open EVERY case i got in CSGO. Keeping the dream alive of finding a 100$ + knife.... never happened! Just another way for game developers to make money! i guess they have to make a living as well

Not quite the same thing but would like to add this to the thread...

I've never had a problem with microtransactions, hell I've spent tons on Dota 2 items and COD pretty things but when a company does what Turtle Rock is doing with Evolved...Man do I want them to fail hard!!

The issue is when you cannot really progress in the game quickly/much further due to you having the NEED to purchase things to help your progression.

Can't stand those games and I would never even bother buying any of them due to the slowness of the game without the micro transactions.

I used to spend all my extra airtime on LoL stuff. It's money that would've gone to waste if I haven't done so. It's only aesthetics though.

If it's something that will add value to the game (and me), then yeah I would gladly spend a few bucks on a transaction.

Apart from buying actual DLC, I haven't done ANY in-game Microtransactions (that I can remember). For a game like Hearthstone, I would spend the cash If I had. I like collecting the cards. Yes, I know you can purchase with in-game currency as well, but to collect it is quiet time consuming and tedious.

i have a weakness for microtransactions - the biggest one being the 'lucky packets' - ie buy a key and open a box and hope you get nice stuff.

i am so guilty of this its not even funny. it is my kryptonite.

Hahahaha! I used to be exactly the same way!!!

Where do you find such things?

Last I heard Evolved had bugs that has been present throughout the beta, but at least their microtransactions work.

What sort of micro-transactions are there? I was thinking it seemed pretty expensive game as is, let alone they have micro transacations.

I flat out refuse to play games like this, but I don't have a problem with it in games like CSGO and Dota 2 where its purely cosmetic

The cs:go and dota market are also kind of overkill. I think for cs:go the weapons should all cost the same and can be purchased from a store of some type. I dont want to have to fork out $'s just because they decided this skin needs to be rarer.

They make the skin makers feel that their skin is not as good as the rest :/
