Woo! Load shedding, woo!

Kwaai It feels weird though.
brendanvb i wont be surprised if they do, because they tend to save the "maintenance" for then.

But we will see.

Quite sad that we're so used to it and we question it when it doesn't happen. :/

I am building a 550sqm house worth about R7.5mil. The client is putting in a 10kw solar system worth R400k. He is off Eskom unless he needs aircon at night... I am tempted to spend that just to give Eskom the finger...

That being said I am really close to spending R50k for a hybrid off grid / grid tie system. Biggest problem with solar power is the storage. You have an abundance of energy while the sun shines. And then need it when the sun doesn't shine. So let solar charge your batteries in the day, amd at night you run off your batteries or Eskom. At day, once bstteries are charged any excess energy is pumped back to Eskom, not at the reduced supplier rates, but at the rates they charge you. Seems like a worthy investment :)

I question the "low-to-medium" status, I mean have any of you done anything differently since the load shedding started ?

I have fridges running 24/7, geyser doing its thing, but the rest is used as and when needed. No different than before at all, use a light where and when you need then shut it off. I'm pretty sure everyone is doing the same thing, so what changed ?

I can only conclude that either they got more money to pay for diesel or they actually have more system operating "properly" now than they did a week ago.

The flip side ofc is that this is all just a politics game. Who knows anymore since a question isn't met with truthful and simple answer :(

More of the units are back online, that is what is making the difference. I haven't really tracked the usage vs availability though

I look forward to seeing what Elon Musks batteries will do next year.

Like I said yesterday, they saved it for the weekend. Well at least in my area stage 2 is scheduled for 06:00-08:30, so I won't even be awake yet by the time it's over.

Yeah seems to be a weekend thing now.

Luckily it only starts from 08:00 so you are outside the schedule.

I have on a terrible time.. 18:00 - 20:30 :(

Sure. Avoided heating during peak hours, got a geyser timer and set it to 3am, bought more LEDs, used sleep on my computer more, changed cooking method etc. Actually aside from fridge I changed everything (couldn't work out how to reduce that). Ended up with a 250 bill in the end.

By nature I make a genuine effort to be a good citizen and contribute - but in turn I expect gov/country/society to deliver too. And if it doesn't I'll find one that will.
