Hi All

So I have the ASUS Sonar DG sound card:

It has been working perfectly since I bought it, 2 weeks ago I formatted my PC and reinstalled windows 7(64 bit). On Friday I started having a problem that every time I opened skype my PC would blue screen. Firstly I thought it was skype, tried re-installing it a few times and every time I logged into Skype my PC still blue screened. I thought then it must be something to do with the audio input, so I tried another VOIP program and sure enough when I started a call my PC blue screened.

The sound then also started giving a loud static noise when plugged into the card, only works if I plug my speakers into my front panel now. I then uninstalled the drivers for the card and haven't had a crash since then.

So basically, would this be a hardware problem ? Or maybe just an updated Driver ? I never had the problem with the drivers I had installed before I formatted my PC. Hoping the card hasn't just given up already, It's not even a year old yet.

Crableg when you get the bluescreen what is the code you get with it normaly you can narrow it down if its software or hardware with those code.

Right, I have no idea, Not to sure where to look, I could make it blue screen again and check it out.

Yeah details on the BSOD error code, as well as having a look through Event Viewer will definitely help narrow down what the cause is :)

If the BSOD go way to fast try this.

"Try selecting Disable automatic restart on system failure from the Advanced Boot menu options to know the blue screen error
The Advanced Boot Options menu is accessed by pressing F8 as the Windows splash screen begins to load."

Or

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
Go to Advanced
Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

The drivers you installed after the Windows reinstall, were they the drivers from the disk or the latest ones downloaded from the net?
Also, did you install the same drivers this time that you had with the previous windows?

To check the event viewer, right click Computer and select Manage. On the left select Event Viewer. Wait for it to populate and then expand the "Critical" event type. Double click any of the events under critical and it will open a list with all the critical failures.
From this you can sometimes also glean some information.

Awesome thanks I'll have a look and let you guys know.

The drivers are the drivers from the CD, so i haven't updated them which could also be a problem but didn't think it would crash my whole PC. Never had any issues with the CD driver before the format.
