Bloodborne: the official thread

Just finished up with Cleric Beast.
Surprisingly I found it a little easier the first attempt, came back the second time to take him/her out.

What classes and starting weapons have you guys chosen, and have you kept with that character or tried another roll of the die?

I took the following:
Spoiler: show

Violent Past - "Terribly violent past. Rash, but stronger for it."
Right Weapon - Axe
Left Weapon - Hunters Pistol

Spoiler: show
I went with the Lone Survivor. Which starts with a high vitality.
Not sure how i'm going to setup my character yet though. Still early days.

Currently I'm trying out the Kirkhammer and using the Hunter Blunderbuss.

So how is the game is the hype justified?I am getting the game but what are your guys impressions so far.
I'm loving it. Around 4 hours in, but I cannot emphasise enough that this is directly linked to Demon's Souls. So much is influenced by it. It's really really tough. For people that have only played Dark Souls 2 this will be a challenge. It's a lot faster and is designed to be played aggressively. The mechanics are really solid and the game looks beautiful, everything flows. The Lore seem to be much like the Souls series and is very deep but leaves it very open as well. A lot of reading item descriptions.

I went to make coffee this morning and brought it up with another Souls fan colleague, needless to say my rambling went on for no less than a half hour.

Spoiler: show
I started with the soldier/warrior can't remember exactly what it was called but it had the highest strength stat. For weapons I took that whip/cane and the blunderbuss but rerolled with the axe and blunderbuss. Currently rocking the kirkhammer +1 and blunderbuss +1 with a saw spear as backup weapon.

The second boss I came across yesterday was owning me the whole of yesterday afternoon, think I'm gonna have to wait for the servers to go live so I can summon some backup. [emoji14]

Also, what [MENTION=4071]BeoTeK[/MENTION] said. It's much more Demon's than Dark Souls and I love it all the more because of that. Definitely gonna be (more of) a challenge for guys that only played DSII.

Spoiler: show
Apparently when you kill the second boss, the one I am struggling with, with his final breath he yells out "Umbassa" creating a link between Demon's Souls and Bloodborne.

i just picked up my copy today :) but alas, my PS4 is only arriving at the end of the week :(

does the came also prevent pausing, like the rest of the Souls series ?

Yeah you can't pause the game. So you gotta be on your toes all the time :D.

If I need to "pause" and don't want to risk enemy respawns or anything happening in game, I just exit the game to title screen. It will load back exactly where you were in the same game state. Better than going back to NEXUS, but at least that's a safe zone.

can u do this in mid-fight ?

In previous titles you could so I don't see why this should be any different. But I don't see why you would want to, when you get back you'll be disorientated and get owned. At least that's what has happened to me in the past. :p

Surprised that very few people are mentioning the insane frame drops...The game is beautiful, no doubt but its showing how weak "next gen" consoles really are.

This game on PC @4K would have been utterly beautiful and smooth...oh well.

Insane frame drops? I've been playing for about 8 - 10 hours now and haven't noticed anything. It might not be as smooth as The Order 1886 was but it's still a decent 30 FPS most of the time. There might be areas later in the game where there is more frame drops, but I've not encountered anything so far. Then again, I don't really notice things like that (unless it's as bad as Blighttown in DS1) and I'm too busy focusing on not dying too worry about minor frame drops. [emoji14]

Also, it wouldn't really be a From Soft game without frame drops. [emoji14]

I did mention this a few posts earlier and maybe they fixed a lot of it with the patch (which is the word), but I have felt a few times that the frames dropped to what felt like mid to low 20's. Like in that beginning area where that horde is huddled around that big bonfire. Though there is a lot of stuff going on there, but again, nothing game breaking. The level designs are amazing though and the planning and traversing of them is a beautiful thing.

Weird, I didn't notice any drops in that area. And I played through that area about 10 - 15 times because of dying so much.

Well the little I've seen there was very noticable frame drops, what makes it worse is the game is already running a "claimed" avg of 30fps. I do think it looks amazing but meh I would never be able to play a game like that...

I also reckon once the game is officially launched a lot more people will complain about it.

This game on PC would have been incredible.

I see what's going on here, you're just salty that the game isn't coming to PC. [emoji14]

Just kidding, in case it isn't obvious.

Bear in mind that I played through many entire games at a low frame ratr, most recently I finished Dead Rising 3 three times at an average of 17FPS so framerate doesn't bother me in the slightest and that maybe why I haven't noticed anything.

lol My PS4 is waving at you xD

Yeah I reckon you're used to it and as such it doesn't make much difference to your gaming experience.
I would have gone insane if I was forced to play a game at 17fps... :wtf:
