New SSD advice please...

Hey guys! I am currently in the market for a new SSD. I am looking to get around a 250-500 GB drive and I am looking to spend between R1500 and R2500. Reliability and speed take priority over capacity. Does anyone have any advice?

Reasons for why you recommend the drives that you do would be appreciated, although "I used one and didn't have problems" doesn't really tell me much though.

Going from a traditional hard drive to any SSD will be a massive performance boost. That being said, Samsung EVOs are probably the best bang from the reviews I read last year. Samsung Pro and Intel were the leaders, but cost a bit more.

That being said, the crucial is definitely good value for the money.

I'll never go back to a conventional hard drive as my main drive. I currently have two SSDs. One as my main drive and one for games. Plus a green normal drive for normal data.

Most current gen ssd's don't fail at all, if there is a failure its almost always controller related.
The Intel 700 series drives have some if not the best reliability, however they are quite expensive and to be honest a Samsung 850 will run just as well and be almost as reliable.

The days of SSD's failing like crazy are gone, I've only had to rma 2 ssd's over the last 6 months or so.

You were promoting the Mushkin's quite avidly not too long ago... Any experience and feedback on them? I must say, my AData is still going strong and it feels incredibly fast. From pressing the power button on MiniMonster[sup]TM[/sup] to viewing my mail in Chrome is less than 7 seconds. Scout's honor.

Gotta say I was very happy when I put in my OCZ Arc 100 256GB a few weeks ago, especially when I then saw it as "best bang for buck" from Toms hardware here. :D Cost me R1450 @ Takealot, ordered wednesday afternoon and in my hands Friday at 17h00 :)

Otherwise, as mentioned above, any ssd will be a noticeable improvement over a standard mechanical, so you can't really go wrong :)

Love them, actually waiting for stock to come in so I can get one for myself.
I really like them because they offer epic performance and capacity for very little money.

Well thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm going to have a look and report back once I have decided. Thanks again!

Hey guys. Just some feedback, I decided to go for the Crucial special at Wootware. By all accounts it's a decent reliable drive and the price is very good with that special currently. Thanks again to all of you for the advice.

The MX100? that was the one I was looking at before finding the OCZ for under 1.5 (250gb), but that crucial... its good bang for buck. for a while it was the king of the beastly budget builds :)

Ja, it seems that way. I'm quite happy with it, especially at R1700. I'm looking forward to the performance increase. It's going to be awesome :D

Oh yes night and day from a conventional drive. You'll find yourself at first going..."think I'll restart my pc now, just coz I can." and then looking round to find someone to gloat to.

...:( i have no life
