CS:GO official discussion thread

I started as a Nova 2 when I started playing Counterstrike again! Just get a stable group of players to play with so that you can get to know their play styles, Makes it much easier

I am now of the Elite silver (totally rocking it yo!)

think i need to play more comps hehe...

Yeah I also want to start doing ranked, but I'm scared. :p

You need to get 10 Wins to get a rank on Ranked Matches. Before that you will play with a bunch of other unranked people. So usually they are all new people, and the odd guy here and there with a smurf account!
So nothing to be worried about.

Just make sure you have a mic and know the maps properly including all the spot names on the map

after 292 hours of CS:GO I still don't have a rank... i can never find any comp game (I give up when it hits 10 mins) how long does it take you guys to find a game?

What time of the day do you play? Should get a game within 5 min. Especially if you are unranked. Playing with a full lobby makes it go even quicker

When I was still unranked I played against the best 'ranked' players there ever was.

Something sounds wrong, 99% of the time I find a game within 2mins... Maybe you only have one map selected (thats unpopular and unplayed) be sure to select a couple of the more popular maps: Dust 2, Inferno, Mirage etc.

Only other thing I can think of is, maybe your "max acceptable ping" in setting is set very low, default is 150ms I think, I set mine to 80ms, but if it's manually set to like 5-10ms, you probably wont find a game

i have like all the maps selected and max ping is 100.. so i don't know what's up with this thing.. but i started to play with a friend now and at least that allows me to join on comp games

I see that it says that there are 0 people online, 0 people searching and 0 servers online :/ I don't understand what is wrong with this thing

Yeah that'll do it. That's how you aren't joining games :/

Tried making sure ports are all open? (I recall CS liking 27015)

Here's list of Steam required ports in order of importance:

UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
UDP 4380

Oh sorry for double post but also make sure this isn't a family-shared version of the game. If its family shared you won't be able to play comp matches, only casual/bot games.
Also NAT type must be open. not secured, not strict....open.

Yeah that is very important! Steam games have to be installed through steam, not just copied over into your steam folder

That isn't quite what I meant. I'm talking about Steam Family-sharing, where you can play a game from someone elses account if they share it with you :p

Ahhh okay I understand! I had issues this weekend with my CSGO and dota on another PC. because I just copied the games from the steam folder. So it seems that that is not possible anymore and has to be installed, or backed up from original and then installed from the backup

You can do that. but you still gotta "install" them from Steam on the new machine. Steam then discovers existing files (gotta copy them to where your other steam games are ofc) and bobs your uncle. I do this VERY often as I have 2 machines next to each other that I use to LAN games, and theres no way I'm downloading 20gb shit TWICE.

EDIT: sorry didn't read that you said "installed". yea, you cant just rape the folders anymore :p
