Those prices arnt that bad actually...

But now do they still do the RGBW or just the RBG now?

This is what i mean, some manufacturers use white pixels as well to get to the 4k

Pricing is reasonable considering Samsung's and LG's size to price ratio.
 
Sorry for the n00bish question here. What are the benefits behind getting a 4K television set ? Don't HD decoders, consoles and blu-ray players display/render everything at 1080P anyway?

Future-proofing and PCs (or media centres) can also make use of 4K; many hook such devices up for 4K viewing.
 
A lot of devices also support upscaling to 4k if you have lower definition content. But it's really not the same as watching something in 4k natively.
 
Honestly this whole "future proofing" for 4k is a ridiculous marketing ploy so many people are falling for. Except for some very high end gaming PC's that can render games at 4k, what else are you going to use for 4k? There just is not enough 4k media at the moment available to really substantiate the cost of buying 4k over normal 1080p screens. And if you do have a PC capable of rendering games at 4k, I'm pretty sure you are not struggling for money at all, so money doesn't mean that much to you. But for all of us normal people, there is IMO, NO reason to buy 4k screens. Future proof yourself all you want, the prices will drop, so when 4k becomes a more standard resolution for other media, then I'll get a TV and screen at a much more reduced price.

In its current stage I would not buy a 4K monitor. I have nothing that supports it, first of all, and second, it's way out of my price range.
Its prices will drop, so buying it now may not be on everyone's mind.
