Nothing dirty at all, his jaw clashed with that of a Samoan player's shoulder....easy to generalize?

Very mixed feelings about this. Yes, I feel Jean is not fit to be included on previous merit, but the poor guy has the worst luck ever for world cups! He is not even staying there to support the boys, they are shipping him home for "expert" treatment. You would think the UK has some good doctors?

No Jean didn't get a dirty hit or anything he has a glass jaw he broke it the same way against Argentina earlier. he went in with the ball and the other player also went in high but their heads kinda clashed and hit jean in the Jaw. As soon as he was hit i said to my father in law that's it his done broken jaw.
And then when the interviews hit you could see he couldn't open or close his mouth completly. and sorry to say this he's a good oke and all but he's past his prime. And this couldn't have happened at a better time. Also JP is now a national treasure again and all of his tries were made by the rest of the team i still think he isn't good enough to be a starting wing. all soft tries and he had to do no work. Now habana's try was something beautiful. and man Schalla looks like the man of old
And i would say give morne a chance in the next few games too lambie isn't preforming all of a sudden and Fourie and Pollard is the combination to run for the rest of the WC on starting and i hope the back line will look like this from now on. Fourie, Pollard, Dealende, Kriel, Habana, Petersen or Serfontein.

So much talk at the moment about how dodgy that game was against Japan... I mean what team comes back from that like we did against Samoa? It was great to see our guys actually play some rugby but wow...
As for De Villiers I really feel for the guy... Most unlucky career in the history of World Cup Rugby...

i managed to catch glimpses of the game at the wedding i was at and was quite chuffed at one stage as i had the right score and then england buckled....

So, a month or so before the World Cup I started telling everyone that I predict an Ireland vs New Zealand final, and after the first 2 rounds I am still sticking to that predicament. Ireland is playing a brand of rugby that is really effective, and really expansive. Also they have one of the best attacking back lines in the competition.
Whales showed that England is very susceptible to the pressure of being the host nation, and I think they have a real possibility of missing the play-offs. Nobody in their pool is going to beat the Australians, and the only saving grace for the poms are if Fiji can upset the Welsh somehow.
France is too up and down this year and although they have a good enough team to beat anyone at any time, their form is too inconsistent for any real chance.
The Boks showed that they can bounce back, and I am not sure we will know the relieve that is felt in that camp after the week they had. After the Japan game, they were on the ropes, and they came back and played the rugby we as South Africans are known for and have given us so much success. We will beat Scotland and USA comfortably I believe, and probably face Whales or England in the quarters. If we play Whales, it will be an easy game, but England will not be easy to beat in the knock-out games in England. But we will probably progress to the semi's where we face the All Blacks, and I'm sorry to day that I don't think we have the team or the form to beat them. If we reach the final, however, NOBODY will beat us there. Not a single team stands a chance then.

while driving back from KZN yesterday we were listening to OFM/SAFM not sure which one it was but the guy doing the sports had an interesting bit of trivia on the Springboks.
Chester Williams scored a hatrick against samoa in 1995, Habana also scored a hatrick in 2007 against them. and now this weekend Old JP Peterson also scored a hatrick. coincedence? Maybe. i have my hopes on SA reaching the finals but i also think Ireland is the inform team with NZ and i do think Hammer is on the right track with his prediction

It is indeed a very exciting world cup, and one thing has to be said about the minnow teams, they are more of a challenge than in previous RWC's. You can see that most of the smaller teams suffer from second half burn-out, where better teams are able to run in 4-5 try's without any issue. Also, I think World Rugby really dealt the smaller nations a bad deal with all the fast turn-arounds from one match to the other they have to do. It sucks, because in a world where Japan had 7 days to recover after the grueling game against SA, they would've been much more competitive against Scotland.

Apparently the short turnaround happens to most teams. Like we have a short turnaround before we play the USA. I want to say all teams but someone said that it doesn't happen to Ireland. I never checked though.

Our shortest turn-around is 5 days, which is still not too bad, but England, Wales and Ireland all have the longest turn-arounds, with the shortest for them of 6 days. Some tier 1 teams can even have up to 11 days between games. Also, for teams like the All Blacks, a short time between games are no problem. They made 13 changes to the team that beat Argentina to play Namibia, and they STILL fielded a team better than any other nation. Most of the tier 1 nations do have lots of depth, but other nations are not that lucky. It also comes down to game time, as most minnow teams don't get the same amounts of games to play like we do, bringing their overall match fitness in question. I just think it should be all placed on a level playing field, where everyone get's enough time to recover after any game, regardless of which team it is

Now, onto the challenge we are facing on the captain front. With JdV out of the competition, we have to play Victor Matfield as the captain of the team. Sure, there are players with equal experience in the team in better form, but it's gonna be the John Smith debacle all over again. We need someone like Victor in the team, not because he is the best lock in the team, but because he is the best captain for the team. His performance hasn't been that bad at all, and it will be sorry to bench someone like Lood De Jager. But there is no other player in the team that has the captaincy experience Victor has. When the knock-out stages comes, we need someone that will be able to keep the team calm and collected in any situation, even when they are behind and need to chance the game. Schalk Burger can lead the team, but he's not the guy you want to lead in crunch time. Victor has proven that he can captain in those dire situations.

i have to disagree with you here Hammer. i think Schalk or Andries Strauss can quite easily lead the squad going forward as they lead by example which will keep Lood in the starting 15. However knowing old HM, Vic will probably get the captaincy.

Well i would mentions 3 or 4 players here Victor being one, then there is schalla, duane and you can even have a look at Adriaan and Fourie.
