Raru actually had exactly what I wanted! The SO is gonna be super happy with her christmas present, and the "shipping above R299" thing enticed me enough to finally pull the trigger on buying the Metro 2033 book from them too :)

Great! Yeah, I need to get into Raru. The only thing that bugs me about buying trades and hardcovers from online retailers is that they don't include a plastic sleeve on the books, so I've had one or two books arrive with nicks and dents. Not the end of the world, but as a comic book collector, that is something that is really important to me.

I had two DnD books arrive with dents on both hard-cover corners. I sent them back. At the price you pay for them, they should be perfect. Raru graciously replaced them (as they should). Other than that, I haven't had an issue. If ANYTHING arrives damaged, you should just send it back. This also forces them to improve their standards of packaging. You can also write something in the shipping notes that insists that it is packaged carefully. They seem to read the shipping info very carefully.

As for the covers, you can buy them from your local comic shop I'm sure. I have bought a few from Zed-Bee's.

Yeah, I buy a bag full of covers from my LCS and keep them handy for those books. Oh, believe me, I've sent a bunch of them back. But they get really difficult with you if it is special import (like King City by Brandon Graham). It isn't that I have a problem with sending it back as much as sometimes these orders are time-sensitive. If I buy a book as a gift for someone, it can take up to a month for delivery. If I send it back, I add about 5 weeks to the wait time, missing the mark for giving the gift at the right time (and that sucks). Also, trades and graphic novels are where comic shops make a fair bit of their profit, so I don't mind spending an extra R20-30 to keep them going and getting my books in pristine condition. For me it is easy to pick the books up, because I go to the shops AT LEAST once a month. Ordering it online is much more convenient, though.

Ja, I hear you. If I can get it at my LCS, I will always choose that over online orders, especially for gifts. Sometimes though, the wait is shorter through an online store.

Very much so. If someone has the book in stock, you can get it within a few days, whereas an LCS has to order it from Diamond. These days, though, their orders come in two weeks, which isn't terrible. Digital comics also significantly make buying books easier for me now, unless I really want something beautiful in print.

You are right, orders don't take terribly long, but ja, getting an stock item is better than waiting.

I tried the digital thing for a while. I definitely prefer full printed books, and I prefer TPBs to individual issues. I only really buy physical copies of collected volumes or trades. I just prefer the feeling of the book in hand. Also, I stare at a screen 90% of the day anyway, when I read something, I want it to not be on a screen.

I do both print and digital. I prefer print for books that I really like the art for, especially books from my favourite artists or companies that make good looking books, like IDW. Then I also have my Marvel Graphic Novel collection, which gives me nice hardcovers to read. Digital is basically great to read in bed, because I do a lot of reading before I nod off and I don't want to damage my books if I do so. Also, there are a TON of specials and sales on digital books, so I typically would buy a whole bunch of stuff to read, and if I like the book's art a lot, I would double dip to buy the print version.
 
Death Vigil, Saga, and Sunstone. That's my list at moment. For the brave, try Sunstone (same guy who writes and does the art for Death Vigil, Stjepan Sejic). It's an interesting and sincere tale of relationships and bdsm. No lies, it's pretty interesting. And his art is sublime as always.

Started reading Superman: American Alien by Max Landis (writer of a little known flick by the name of Chronicle:)). A snapshot of Clark Kent's life at different junctures in his life. Definitely a good time
 
Came across the most amazing comic book store in Melrose Arch over the weekend... They had a bloody first edition gold signature by stan lee death of wolverine comic... 1 of 30 in the world... 13k... That has got to be worth some real cash when he dies...

I wonder if it was the same book that was at Cosmic Comics a while ago.

I had fun with East of West, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is into Saga and can dig some super-futuristic cowboys, with the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse mixed in. Hickman and Dragotta are killing it on that book.
