As much or as little as you want. It's not the same as regular mmo's where everything moves on and you leaves you behind. Imagine Freelancer multiplayer with regular content updates.
I usually spend about 30 - 40 mins an evening to do some bounty hunting.
Seconded, play in a solo game, undock, shoot some pirates in bounty sites or mine in a belt for about an hour or less sometimes. Make some money, have some fun, relax.
I disagree with the Solo game mode. Though most of the time I'm playing by myself I always play in Open mode. There something strangely exciting/eerie about bumping into other CMDR's.
There's that and that fact that I believe you should play the game it was meant to played. But each to their own, I'm not going to judge or criticize you for it.
yeah and I am yet to run into a hostile CMDR. everybody I've met were all friendly
Only cause im not playing yet ! im gonna be shooting everyone![]()

It's a perfectly acceptable tactic.

hahahaha! ok let's see how you fare against my 3 beam lasers in your little sidewinder![]()
Guys, how much of your life do you need to give to this game?
Is it something you can "quickly" play for 30-40 minutes in a session, or not really?
Like...is it not as much fun if you dont commit to a few hours of gametime?
Is it persistent in that if you aren't on for a week you either have to start-over or have a lot of catching up to do?
From what is seems thats not the case, but just wanna make sure
Been lurking this thread a few weeks now and my interest is peaking...
You might be able to come right, but word of warning. The game doesn't save the state of where you are when you quit, like it would have had it had offline mode, unless you quit after having successfully docked at a station. The quest timers also don't stop if you quit, so any open quests will continue to run until they run out of time and you are then penalized for not completing the quest (not just not getting the reward like other games). So basically you won't be able to do missions.
You will have to leave the station, fly somewhere, look for a ship with a bounty to kill, kill it, and fly back to a station within 30-40 minutes. That is possible, but I don't really see you able to do much else. You won't be able to head in a random direction and explore the galaxy until you carefully plot a route to a system with a known space port, and then if you get interdicted you might be in time trouble.
Really? Does a bounty only last in a session? I did not know it went away if you logged out of Elite.
sorry dude but this is incorrect. the game saves the state you quit at. I have quit the game mid supercruise and when I logged back in it spawned me right where I left off, only in deep space so just needed to fire up the FSD again. You might be able to come right, but word of warning.
