Just got a call from "Johnny" calling on behalf of Symantec, offering ... something. Sounded like a free pdf or something. I said "We're happy with our current products". He responded that he's not trying to sell me anything. He just wanted me email address to send me some material to IT professionals such as myself (and he didn't even have the organization's name right!). I told him I don't give out my email randomly. "No, I am not asking for your personal email, just work one"...

"So if you're calling on behalf of Symantec, you should understand that giving out email addresses over the phone to anyone who calls is a security risk, and a good way to get yourself onto spam lists".

At least he said "I understand" and politely ended the call, so maybe it wasn't a scam, but I'm not chancing it. I did forget to tell him to take me off his calling list. I heard him updating something when I corrected him on the org's name... Dangit.

Trying to figure out why my postgresql function is giving syntax error, I suck at syntaxing my queries correctly. Always a ; or something missing somwhere :/

What is it? Maybe a 2nd set of eyes will help. (or don't... I did just post something about cybersecurity... lol)

Tell them you'll call back, then ask for their direct number and switchboard number

I never said anything about actually calling them back.

I know. I basically did the same thing by telling him a company that sells security products should not be phoning around for email addresses. No point doing both. If he persisted I might have gotten more aggressive.

Speaking of dealing with cold calls, a guy at my work often gets random sales calls, so he either says "ya tell me more", or "please hold", then he puts his phone on his desk and carries on working. They hang up eventually...

Dang, I should have done this now... I got another call from a very pushy lady from the company that does our printer asking about our phone system. Sounds like they want to sell us a whole new system (even though we had a brand new one put in less than two years ago).

So... They're gonna drive out all this way tomorrow, and I'll say "No, we don't have the cash, and I don't have the time to listen to you. I'll get the gate for you."

That's why you should move over to MongoDB and say goodbye to syntax issues in your queries forever. Hell, even say goodbye to queries altogether.

db.noMoreQueries.find({ feeling: "Yay" });

As much as I would love to move, the basis of our loan management app runs on postgresql due to decisions beyond me as it it was developed way before my time at the current position.

But I will look into Mongo, for interest sake thanks!
