Do you spoil games for yourself?

There's a GIF for that
I tend to watch trailers and gameplay videos of games, only up to the point that I've made up my mind about getting them, then I avoid anything else regarding those games until I can play them myself.

I often find that if I consume too much media for a game that I'm excited about, it takes away a lot of the joy of discovering fun and interesting things in the game for myself. It gets really difficult when you're particularly hyped for a certain game, but in my experience it almost always pays off in the end. The media and even the public can be particularly bad at revealing too much sometimes and often spoiling games long before they're released.

I was particularly happy with how I managed to avoid almost anything GTA V related until it eventually released on PC. It really paid off as well; discovering all the things you could do in that game is a huge part of the fun.

What are your thoughts?

I'll usually watch every official trailer that's released and maybe a gameplay video or two if I'm really hyped for the game, but never enough to spoil something for myself. But I've gotta be sure it's worth my hard earned money.

Normaly watch the teaser and then the trailer and then I see if there is a youtube review of it. But other than that also try not to get too much info at the start. Like I did with Plants vs zombies 2 played 10 min of the game and was like sigh why did I buy this!

When I'm really eager I watch gameplay. Trailers, reviews and an intro to a Let's Play (first 20 or so mins) convinces me to buy or avoid a product (game).

So yeah... Slight spoilers to tease my senses. :)

I will often watch game trailers that get me hyped for a game, But i wont watch any "story content" of a game before i play it... Sometimes i will look into the game play to see if its something i will enjoy, but mostly I know what im after and I dont spoil anything where possible...

Playing a Beta of a game seems like the best way to go though...

I tend to find playing the Beta spoils the games for me. Unless I don't play it for too long.

For games that I see I will most certainly play, I try and watch as much spoiler free content as possible to ensure I make the right decision on the game I buy. So no Let's play's, walkthroughs or stuff like that. If it's a story heavy game, like Firewatch, I would just simply stay away from videos altogether.

But then I've bought a bunch of games after watching videos of people playing a game I initially didn't have any interest in, and after seeing how it's played, and to some extent having some elements spoiled, I buy the game in anycase, and I still have a great time with the game.

I think it depends on the game... Some games have a Beta that is just a small section of the game, which i find fine, it does annoy me a bit when the Beta is like the first "level" and then you have to replay it when you get the proper game anyway...

In some ways certain beta's have spoiled the game for me in that I enjoyed the beta far more than the game - e.g. Guild Wars 2 I loved the beta so much so I bought the game but never found that same magic in the actual release.
The Just Cause 2 MP Mod beta was also tremendously fun but when they released it and people could host their own servers the community fractured and it never was the same.

Nope not at all. I will read a few press releases and look at screenshots to get an idea of what the scope of the game entails.

Thats it, I can usually tell if I will really like a game or not just from that.

I don't watch any movies of games I know I am gonna buy like uncharted4.I watched a bit of the story trailer and I was like Jeezus graphics and quickly closed the video.I also don't do betas.
